Forecast to finish August looks nice

We're starting this work week with high pressure in control throughout the Ohio Valley, and that means pleasant weather for the Capital Region as we finish off the month of August.

Monday and Tuesday

Rather nice conditions continue as we continue to scour many of the clouds out of the region to start this work week. That leads to yet more beautiful conditions as we head through the day today. Temperatures this afternoon stay into the middle 80s with plenty of sunshine, along with comfortable temperatures. We stay comfortable overnight as lows fall back into the lower to middle 60s.

That nice weather continues into the day tomorrow as well with plenty of sunshine in store, though a few clouds could sneak in as we head through the overnight hours and into early on Wednesday. Things stay comfortable, though, with highs in the middle 80s.

By midweek, we'll watch Hurricane Idalia work its way through the southeastern part of the U.S. The current forecast track takes this tropical system well to our south and southeast. However, as Idalia tries to make its way back out to sea, we're going to usher in more high pressure from the north and west that will bring in a reinforcing shot of comfortable air.

Wednesday and Thursday

Sunshine continues throughout Wednesday and Thursday with cooler, drier air allowing for more comfortable afternoon highs in the lower 80s. Feel free to take advantage of a little bit of Mother Nature's free A/C during the overnight hours with lows swinging back into the upper 50s to lower 60s. Enjoy it now, because as we enter the first days of Meteorological Fall, summer says "not so fast, my friend!"

Friday and into the Weekend

As we head into week 2 of high school football in the bluegrass and week 1 of college football through the land, temperatures are on their way back up through the region.

A big ol' ridge of high pressure builds into the central and southern plains, and this thing looks to be massive enough to keep our clouds mostly at bay as we head into the weekend proper. We'll see those highs make a run back into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Humidity levels also look to take a jump back up, so look for muggier conditions if you're headed either to some Friday Night Lights or on over to Lexington for that noon kick as Kentucky opens things up against Ball State. We're clear but muggy overnight as lows stay in the middle to upper 60s.

This trend of warmer-than-normal air looks to continue as we head through the next week and beyond as that pattern hangs on. We've got a pretty good chance of seeing warmer than normal temperatures as we head through at least the first half of September. I thought it was supposed to be pumpkin spice season?

That's a lot of red. (Pivotal Weather)

Summing it all up, here's a look at the next seven days, with that comfortable air today and tomorrow only getting more comfortable mid-week. However, heat comes calling just in time for the start of of Meteorological Fall on Friday.
