About Us
Who are we?
Capital Forecast is a hyperlocal-focused, multi-platform weather enterprise located in Kentucky’s state capital providing everyday and event weather forecasts in written and video form.
Who do we cover?
Our coverage area includes the Central Kentucky counties of Anderson, Franklin, and Woodford, including the cities of Lawrenceburg, Frankfort, and Versailles.
Why do we cover those counties?
These three counties are served by wonderful and talented meteorologists from both Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky. However, these meteorologists have to serve more than 30 counties in each market. Additionally, these counties are technically out-of-market for our friends working in Louisville TV. And for our friends from Lexington, these three counties are the first you’ll encounter in their designated market area.
More often than not, our weather comes from the west, and our counties are not very big in size. While Anderson and Franklin Counties have the advantage of over-the-air and cable television coverage of severe storms from Louisville, getting a heads up when weather starts impacting places as far west as Southern Indiana, our friends in Woodford County do not have this luxury. They typically do not get warnings from local media until severe weather is nearly on top of them, costing them crucial lead time during severe weather events.
Also, comparatively speaking, there is not as much focus on these counties because their populations are smaller than many others these markets serve. Hyperlocal coverage is crucial in covering everything from severe weather to sunny skies.
